Another question from Corporal Punishment involving the NFC (L)East:
“We are now nearly half way into the season. Who is the Commish picking (as things currently stand) between Dallas and the Giants, both in Week 7 and for the season?”
Good question(s), CP.
Using my powers of prognostication, I foresee both Dallas and New York losing, both by single digits.
Rest of season? Not as easy to forecast
NY is 1st in the division at 4-4, Dallas is 2-5
Dallas has 9 games left because NY has a bye forthcoming…and they have a better record in division right now….
But I’ve got to say New York finishes with a better record rest of season
(But only by default.)
Dallas’s relying on Tony Romo to do everything for them on offense and to do it in a short order upon his return from a broken collarbone is a fool’s idea. Yes, the run game is showing signs, the defensive pressure is mounting, and they really drafted a stud who can cover LBs in Byron Jones….but the QB and WR position(s) (outside of Dez, of course) are black holes. Weeden and Cassel can’t push the ball down the field consistently and lack the freedom, drive and talent to keep the Dallas narrative afloat. How are there actual instances where there’s no inclement weather and the Cowboy passing offense can’t get over 200 yards? In this league?
Trust me, the Giants aren’t winning any beauty pageants with their style of play either. Their best overall RB was relegated to special teams for 6 games then plays twice, looks amazing, then gets hurt….The receivers outside of Odell Beckham are hurt/limited/just not that talented and the tight end spot is more like a losse end. Don’t let me get started ibat porous defense that couldn’t stop a tear from rolling down the cheek of a baby with two handfuls of tissue
But they’ve got a major advantage in overall record and their schedule going forward is favorable enough…They’ll most likely lose to New England on 11/15 and Carolina on 12/20 but they can beat Tampa Bay, Washington, the Jets, Miami, Minnesota and Philadelphia to end the season. Not saying they will, but they can beat those teams.
Alright everyone…Session over.
