In the 1st quarter of the Texans/Lions game, Schaub dropped back to pass and underthrew a wide open Owen Daniels…Replays showed the reason why he underthrew said route…He was getting pressured by Suh up the gut and as Texans G Derek Newton rolled him over, Suh seemed to make contact with Schaub’s man particles with his shoe.
Video of such event is here: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000098883/Matt-Schaub-gets-hit-in-the-groin
So the question is did Suh do this intentionally?
From the various replay angles I’ve seen, there was nothing intentional in that kick to the ‘nads. Yes, it was uncomfortable looking and yes it was unfortunate but I see no intent here. Suh didn’t alter his roll in any way to seemingly aim for the nuts and he didn’t make any direct eye contact to see where he was kicking.
This isn’t a situation like against Green Bay where he stomped on the offensive lineman…That was sketchy but there was no real evidence DEFENDING the act. It looked dirty, was dirty and was unneccsarily done by Suh and the NFL came down hard on him for it.
THIS situation feels like a Ron Artest/Metta World Peace sort of thing…where they give you a fine or look to reprimand you based on reputation.
Funny little anecdote about this Texans/Lions game….I watched the game live on CBS with Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on the call. And when the play happened, they lamented Schaub’s inability to hit the open Daniels. When the truck replayed the shot initially, Nantz and Simms made sympathetic sounds considering they just saw a man get hit in the nuts . Which is understandable. When one man sees another man get it in the nether regions, there’s that immediate set of feelings for the guy who got hit because as men, we all know what that feeling is like…so we are sympathetic to Schaub’s pain as a guy.
But for some reason, CBS cut BACK to the replay and Jim Nantz starts up …”Some might say this was intentional…..”
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE NFL SPINNING THAT NARRATIVE!!!
Definitely trying to get this guy proven guilty in the court of public opinion before this even goes to trial! P
hil Simms couldn’t even co-sign what Nantz was saying when put on the spot because he felt that he couldn’t say with 100% clarity that there was malice behind the act.
Do I know if Suh did it for realsies? No. I don’t know what’s going on in his head and maybe he peeked out the side of his helmet, using peripheral vision to get Matt in the undercarriage just to be a bit of a jerk…
But 95% of me feels this whole topic being brought up is done because of Suh’s “dirty” reputation and because Jim Nantz decided to rouse some rabble and make this a bigger issue than it needed to be. So now Suh is going to have to get this play reviewed in front of a board on Monday and there’s a chance he may get fined/suspended etc….over some bullshit…
Sometimes the NFL just needs to just shut up and let players play. Stop trying to shape the experience for us viewers all the time.
For those that may not know my stance on this….definitely the NAY side….
Over and out.
