I’ll try to keep this one short and/or sweet considering how long it’s taken me to put this one up….
Not always easy to provide written content in the midst of a losing streak but I’ve got to suck it up and put the fingertips to keyboard and produce….but one must keep trucking, am I right?
The Led Zeppelin Award for Heartbreaker
….goes out to EasyBreesyBeautiful for the unfortunate loss to X-Men in week 8, considering everything he did to try and give the game away….
Eli Manning stunk up the joint against Dallas, taking Victor Cruz with him. Reggie Bush laid an egg versus the Jets yet looking at my GameChannel, I assumed EasyBreesy’s goose was cooked because McGahee had 21 points, making this a clear victory….but my eyes were deceived. I go to the actual matchup on the Yahoo page and see McGahee was swapped out for Larry Fitzgerald and I couldn’t believe it!
And lo and behold, the Monday night tilt between Larry’s Cardinals and the mighty San Francisco 49ers didn’t start off that well. Fitzgerald looked to be concussed early in the 1st quarter and then again in the 3rd quarter after two hard hits to the cranium on separate falls to the turf. But apparently he shrugged off the damage or his dreads softened the blow some…because he was out there, running routes and being the standup citizen ESPN talking heads chatted him up to be…..And just when the game got out of hand, garbage time commenced and John Skelton got Larry just enough catches and yards to push X-Men past EasyBreesy at the end. A tough, tough loss. She had the opportunity to get up to .500 with the win but the loss drops her to 3-5….
Other bits of commentary concerning Week 8
Absolute Chaos dodged a bullet when On 3 couldn’t fill out his lineup due to bye week constraints….I’m no authority on what any manager should or shouldn’t do on a weekly basis, considering all the potential points I’ve left on my bench over the years but I do think it was a bad decision to leave that slot open. I understand On 3 felt he couldn’t drop anyone and that’s his opinion but something has to be done there….trade offers or something. Maybe some sort of pre-emptive strike in the weeks leading up to week 8, maybe a drop of a defense just to fill the lineup….something? Because it wasn’t as if Absolute blew the doors off of him. 13 points is nothing in this game. That’s a fluke TD in a matter of seconds in this game. It’s just tough to see, is all…
Jekyll & Hyde was struck down by the curse of Devery Henderson in his matchup with LXG. Then again when going up against a team that can drop a buck ninety two, does Devery’s Continental Breakfast really matter? LXG dropping major dime this week with heavy production from expected sources and the unheralded rookie rushing class….If this was a dynasty league, he’d have two prime candidates to keep and I know he’d be pushing for me to expand keepers…..but since we’re a one keeper type of league, he’ll still have questions next season….
Curb Your Enthusiasm slid by 18-1 thanks to points from the newest fantasy weapon, the scoring defense. The Miami Dolphins scrounged up 22 points against the hapless Jets and with that, gave himself a shot at victory. Toss in an unexpected 24 pts from Crabtree and you’ve got yourself a win. 18-1’s team competed but Carson Palmer came up a little short, Norv Turner’s Chargers wet the bed versus Cleveland, causing Ryan Mathews to be lackluster and Ahmad Bradshaw got caught up in the shitshow that was the Giants offense versus Dallas……
The battle of references to movies with good ensemble casts was won by the Suicide Kings. Keeping him below 175 seemed like one hell of a feat…..smh….Calvin got a 7, and some other high scorers didn’t blow past the 30 point threshold like they usually do…his defense is still impregnable though. A late pick six by the Chicago defense kept them rolling in terms of pick sixes this season….My team had some grit and showed some fight but Young GZ only got a 1, my defense laid down versus Detroit and my choice to start Vick versus ATL yielded me 20 less points than Matt Ryan would’ve. Good win for him and my loss drops me to 4-4 on the season….
Week 8 awaits with some very interesting matchups on the horizon. Will the league leaders pull away from the pack? Will the teams in the middle start to make their move up the charts? Will the teams 8 through 10 rise like phoenixes? Who knows?
And with that, we reach the end of another blog post, full of wit, mirth and humorous tidbits. Let’s keep the competition fierce, the waiver wire pickups plentiful and the trade offers fair and equal, unless someone out there offers you a beaut that you just can’t pass up!
Until next week, folks!
