Who doesn’t love Groundskeeper Willie?
So I’m supposed to be doing some sort of team review here…
It’s too early to say who’s in it and who isn’t because it’s too early in the season and we have no clue who’s capable of a winning streak for the ages, or a losing streak of epic proportions. I expect numerous trades between now and the deadline and MAJOR movement on the waivers because. The teams we all have now are not guaranteed to be the same teams as today.
So I would say this is more of a general post about where I think certain teams are as they are currently constructed. I’ll rank them in 3 categories….using some old school Roc-A-Fella .gifs in the process…
The Dame Dash Dance tier AKA Looking Good So Far
Supa Hot Fire – If Aaron is putting up 73’s, I’m good. The receiving core is ROCK solid…(#phrasing)…and I think I can use the waivers to fill in any holes that need filling…(#phrasing x 2)…..
Brady’s Golden Locks – Drew is still Drew, the 3 headed monster @ RB, even if Mendenhall is dragging behind the other two. and that Baltimore D gives a decided edge to anyone if they can continue to score like they do. Plus the old Steve Smith is BACK!
Gr8est Show On Turf – The starters are what can keep your team in the running. Megatron, Owen Daniels, Ray RIce and Forte are too potent to count out and even with Romo handing out INT’s like prayer pamphlets, the numbers will be solid. If you make it through the bye weeks relatively unscathed, then you could be in the running.
Absolute Chaos – I think a few things have to fall into place but with Colston getting back into the swing of things, the WR corps looks good. Sproles and CopSpeed will be the focus of the entire ground game. And Jimbo Graham is making a monkey of the league. Better hope that Eagle defense gets their act together in the tertiary (still not a secondary to me!) or they’ll end up sandbagging you.
The Jay-Z Hand Wave tier aka Middle of the Pack
Butter?Toppings? – I don’t even have to explain this one. Vick’s overall performance this season so far is a microcosm of this team. Explosive one minute, dud the next. This team is the epitome of boom of bust. You’ve got pieces but a lot of them all kind of blend together. Hard to separate the wheat from the chaff….and other similar cliched phrases such as that…We’ll see how this team works out…
Dawg Pound Warriors – Injury has taken your best RB out of the picture and that sucks. You’ve got backups for his production but I’m not sure any can hold a candle to him. And if your main WR is outscoring your #1 QB, there’s a problem…But the talent is there. A lot of waiver activity (which I already see you are keen at already – ya ambulance chaser..) will keep you in the race
18-1 – I’m not in love with this team on paper. But it has the potential to be explosive IF Eli and Big Ben lead the way and that’s a BIG if. You’re relying on players that have been notorious for laying down at inopportune moments. Let’s hope you are not afflicted by that as the year progresses..
SIgma Champs – Name brands up and down the roster. But a lot of those players are prone to injury, injured already.or tied to an injured QB. and I am definitely not in love with the QB combo on this team. But like I mentioned up top, it’s early. The season still has plenty in store for us all.
The Dame Dash is Done tier AKA Not Sure How this is Gonna Work
LXG – It pains me to say a team helmed by our leader and savior, Tom Brady is in this tier but that’s how I see things with this roster. The skill position players all have positives but they all feel like 2nd or 3rd instead of number 1’s. And it seems you have a thing for tight ends? #phrasing.
On 3..Ready Break… Kenny Britt’s injury left you with a big hole @ WR. If he was up on his feet, you had a better shot. Maybe even to the tier above this one. Without him, I’m not sure. Arian, Jermichael and a few of the others can get you some points but I’m not sure if they can do it consistently for sustained success. I expect heavy waiver movement for this team. Playing the matchups might be your best bet.
Ok, league. I’ve said my piece. If you have any commentary/questions/declarations/prognostications/words of your own…feel free to share!
PS. Notice how the Quarter Mark review post comes as the 25th post on this blog? Yep…I set it up that way…I totally knew that it’d be like that.
